HONORING the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet
upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of
the Bishop Howard Hubbard Humanitarian Award by
Catholic Charities
WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life
in this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the
faithful concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their
energies and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full
recognition and just tribute to those individuals and organizations
which distinguish themselves through their unremitting commitment and
service to humanity; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long- standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
honor the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the Bishop Howard Hubbard Humanitarian Award
by Catholic Charities, to be celebrated at its 6th Annual Night at the
Museum on Thursday, June 21, 2018, at the New York State Museum, Albany,
New York; and
WHEREAS, The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet (CSJ) is a
congregation of religious women which traces its origin to LePuy en
Velay, France in 1650; and
WHEREAS, Active in the Diocese of Albany since 1858, the Sisters of
St. Joseph of Carondelet remain an integral partner in service to the
poor and vulnerable in the local community; and
WHEREAS, As stated in their constitutions, the Sisters of St. Joseph
of Carondelet are called to the same profound love of God and love of
neighbor without distinction which characterized the women who founded
the congregation over 365 years ago; and
WHEREAS, Rooted in prayer, in community living, and in the Gospel of
Jesus Christ, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet commit themselves
to the mission of unity and reconciliation, nonviolence, and
peacemaking; and
WHEREAS, Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet have been deeply
involved in Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany throughout its
distinguished history of helping the less fortunate; CSJ's have been
important leaders and contributors over the years, opening programs and
ministering to those in need; and
WHEREAS, The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet's charism of love
of neighbor, service, and ministry work has been a tremendous blessing
to Catholic Charities and the Diocese of Albany; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to commend the efforts of
the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, throughout the long and
enduring history of this noble congregation, who have devoted their
lives to the benevolent care of others and ministered to the sick with
an overwhelming spirit of charity and love; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the Bishop Howard Hubbard Humanitarian Award
by Catholic Charities; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.
