COMMENDING Jeff Platsky upon the occasion of his
retirement after 45 years of distinguished service
in the field of journalism

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those illustrious journalists who have diligently and consistently, year
after year, recorded the history of their communities and brought local
news and news across the globe to their readers; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Jeff Platsky upon the occasion of his retirement after 45 years
of distinguished service in the field of journalism; and

WHEREAS, As a young child in the 1960s, Jeff Platsky was introduced
to a whole new world through all nine New York City newspapers; after
graduating from Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public
Communications, he began his esteemed career in journalism with a small
newspaper in Presque Isle, Maine; shortly thereafter, he covered the
1980 Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid, New York; and

WHEREAS, In 1975, Jeff Platsky joined the staff of the Press &
Sun-Bulletin in Binghamton, New York, and throughout the next four
decades, he served as a voice of our democracy until his official
retirement on December 1, 2020; through his effective reporting, the
residents of the Carousel Capital of the World were more informed on
crucial current events; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his stellar career, Jeff Platsky served his
readers with intelligence and caring dedication, continuously striving
to effectively fulfill the duties of his position; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Platsky diligently worked to hold politicians and
elected officials accountable and through his steadfast work ethic,
reported on numerous important stories which have truly made an
indelible impact on the residents of Binghamton and New York State as a
whole; and

WHEREAS, Sincerely loved and greatly respected by all those with
whom he worked, Jeff Platsky will be remembered for his honesty,
integrity, keen sense of duty and ability to show a unique grasp of
human problems in his official acts; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Jeff Platsky upon the occasion of his retirement after 45 years
of distinguished service in the field of journalism, and to wish him
continued success in all his endeavors; and be it further


RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jeff Platsky.
