COMMENDING A. Wesley Jones upon the occasion of
his retirement after 26 years of distinguished
service as Emergency Management Director of the City
of Norwich
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens who would devote themselves to public
service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing for the
care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this great
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their
exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend A. Wesley Jones upon the occasion of his retirement after 26
years of distinguished service as Emergency Management Director of the
City of Norwich; and
WHEREAS, A. Wesley Jones began his long and distinguished career
with the City of Norwich as Assistant Emergency Management Officer on
April 21, 1995; he was elevated to a paid position eight months later,
and then in January of 1997, he assumed the role of Emergency Management
Director, the position from which he will officially retire on April 20,
2021; and
WHEREAS, Since A. Wesley Jones first started with the City of
Norwich, emergency management has evolved and is now integrated into
every facet of emergency planning, response, recovery and mitigation; a
calming voice and well-respected in his field, he will be sorely missed
by all those he worked with and each and every resident in the community
who has relied on his expertise; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, A. Wesley Jones spent numerous hours
under extreme conditions whether it be a national crisis such as the
terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, or various natural disasters
which include a 300-year record flood, followed by a 500-year record
flood, several other flood events, record snow storms, severe storms, a
tornado in the city and currently, a global pandemic; and
WHEREAS, Under A. Wesley Jones' able leadership, 27 federal
disasters have been declared for Chenango County, in nearly two-thirds
of which the city was impacted and received funding from the federal and
state governments; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend A. Wesley Jones upon the occasion of his retirement after 26
years of distinguished service as Emergency Management Director of the
City of Norwich, and to wish him well in all his future endeavors; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to A. Wesley Jones.
