COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of the
American Physical Therapy Association

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those organizations within our midst which
have made significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals and organizations it wishes to
recognize for their valued contributions to the success and progress of
society and publicly acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the
basic humanity among us all; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
100th Anniversary of the American Physical Therapy Association; and

WHEREAS, On January 15, 1921, at the Keens Chophouse in New York
City, a group of 274 women, many of whom rehabilitated soldiers during
World War I, came together to found the American Women's Physical
Therapeutic Association; and

WHEREAS, Over the next several decades, the organization grew to
become the American Physical Therapy Association, one of America's
largest associations, embracing a community of physical therapists,
physical therapist assistants, and students working toward empowering
the profession and transforming society; and

WHEREAS, Today, the American Physical Therapy Association is an
organization of over 100,000 members, promoting a mission of building a
community that advances the profession of physical therapy to improve
the health of society; and

WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, the American Physical
Therapy Association engages and empowers its members to be leading
voices in the health care industry, positive influencers of the physical
therapy profession, and a strong collective force for improving the
collective human experience; and

WHEREAS, The American Physical Therapy Association promotes
evidence-based practice, which includes an integration of the best
available evidence, clinical expertise, and patient values and
circumstances related to patient and client management, practice
management, and health policy decision-making; and

WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 100-year history, the American
Physical Therapy Association has demonstrated continuous service to the
residents and communities which it serves; and

WHEREAS, The success of the American Physical Therapy Association is
in direct correlation to the efforts of its dedicated members, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment to the profession, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an

uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the
organization and the patients they treat; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the American Physical Therapy
Association; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the American Physical Therapy Association.
