Daniel Bush earned numerous medals for his meritorious service in Operation Silver Wake in Albania and other operations conducted while serving on the USS Nashville and as a member of C Company 1st Battalion 8th Marines, also known as BLT 1/8 of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

Operation Silver Wake was a Joint Task Force that successfully responded to an international crisis in Albania during the spring of 1997. Silver Wake oversaw the securing of a landing zone and the American Embassy compound in Tirana, Albania. This operation was responsible for the safe evacuation of 400 American citizens, as well as of over 480 foreign nationals from 30 countries at the request of the State Department. While providing security for the evacuation, Corporal Bush was severely injured when the bunker he was guarding collapsed, and nearly two tons of debris fell on him. After spending eight months recovering in a Cleveland, Ohio hospital, Daniel Bush was medically retired.

In addition to the Navy Marine Achievement Medal, Mr. Bush earned the Armed Forces Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, National Defense Medal and Humanitarian Service Medal, to name but a few. Today, Mr. Bush is the Assistant Director for the Broome County Veteran’s Service Agency, where he strives to serve all veterans with the respect and dignity they deserve. This agency renders a wide variety of services to an estimated 18,000 war and peacetime veterans and their families.
