Owen H. Johnson
October 6, 2010
Mayor Ralph Scordino; Mrs. Fran Sweeney; and Senator Owen H. Johnson are shown with new overhead lane signs at the intersection of Route 109, Montauk Highway, Peninsula Drive and Little East Neck Road in Babylon Village.
Mrs. Fran Sweeney and fellow residents of the community located south of Montauk Highway brought their concerns to Senator Owen Johnson regarding the safety of this intersection. Cars were frequently being cut off as traffic moved to either turn onto Peninsula Drive or to turn onto Montauk Highway. Mrs. Sweeney requested safety improvements including the installation of lane signs and a turn arrow.
Senator Johnson initiated a traffic safety study by New York State Department of Transportation which ultimately brought about the new improvements that enhance the safety at this intersection.
