Last month New York State Senator Shirley L. Huntley (Chairperson of Cities) help pass legislation that was signed by Governor Patterson necessary to approve the sale of the housing developments to the entity managed by New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). On April 1, 2010, Senator Huntley held a “Helping Residents Feel at Home” Town Hall Meeting at South Jamaica Houses to address their issues and concerns. This meeting conducted by Senator Shirley L. Huntley included Earl Andrews, Vice-Chairman of NYCHA, Carolyn Jasper, Director of Queens/Staten Island Management Department and various other NYCHA representatives. The purpose of this Town Hall Meeting was designed to hear the concerns, provide solutions and answers. This meeting was conducted after a walk through with Senator Huntley’s Downstate Director of Cities, Warren Gardiner, Deputy Director of Queens/Staten Island Borough Management Office, Develle Caves, Manager of South Jamaica Houses, Margo Madden, President of the Residents Association, Marlene Reed, and various tenant representatives. Prior to the Town Hall Meeting questionnaires were available to residents which allowed them to list their issue.
