Spruce Elementary strives to empower our students to become successful readers. Through the years we have found that providing reading role models helps to motivate our students to read. This year Spruce has enacted the Guest Reader program. We invite people from the community to come and read to a class or grade level.
On Friday, February 18th Spruce welcomed a very special Guest Reader. Senator George Maziarz (Vice President Pro Tempore of the New York State Senate) took time out from his busy schedule to read THE GIVERBACKER PARADE, a story about volunteering and giving back to the community. This is a topic that is very important to both our readers. Senator Maziarz presented the story to the 6th grade classes. The students were very interested in both the story they heard and the men who read them.
Names of those in the picture from the left are - Dr. Jetter, Joshua Farnsworth, Autumn Steele, Christopher Martin, Kassandra Martinelli, Sen. Maziarz, Richard Brown.
Spruce is continuing the search for Guest Readers. We hope to have many more interesting people from the Western New York area come and share their time and talent with our students. The Guest Reader Program is coordinated by Reading Specialist, Mrs. Lisa Insalaco.
