5/24/2011: Janice Sara Reiff Resolution

LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION mourning the death of Janice Sara Reiff, distinguished citizen and devoted member of her community
 
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay  tribute  to citizens  of  the  State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great State of New York; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to mourn the death of Janice Sara Reiff,  distinguished citizen and devoted member of her community; and

WHEREAS, Janice Sara Reiff was born in the Bronx, New York, on July 8, 1949, to Lillian Boshes and William Reiff; and

WHEREAS, Janice Sara Reiff attended elementary, junior, and high schools within the New York City public school system located in Queens, New York; and

WHEREAS, She  furthered her education and graduated from CW Post College of Long Island University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education; and

WHEREAS, Janice Sara Reiff taught as a first grade teacher in the Bronx from 1972 to 1976, as well as at Public School 82 in District  28, in Queens; from 1977 to 2010; and

WHEREAS, This outstanding teacher, who was named UFT District 28 Representative in 2005, distinguished herself in her profession and by her sincere  dedication  and substantial contribution to the welfare of her community; and

WHEREAS, Janice Sara Reiff's commitment to excellence, and her spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charitable and civic endeavors; and

WHEREAS, She served as President of her Tenants Association, and was a member of the Jewish Labor Committee, educators chapter, as well as the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America, and the Cancer Research Foundation; furthermore, she was a union activist and a member of the Conservative Synagogue of Jamaica Estates in Queens; and

WHEREAS, Janice Sara Reiff is survived by her sister, Arlene  Kwartowitz; one brother-in-law, Alan; and her beloved nephew, Laurence; and WHEREAS,  Armed  with  a  humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of compassion, Janice Sara Reiff leaves behind a  legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all she served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to mourn the death of Janice Sara Reiff, distinguished citizen and devoted member of her community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the family of Janice Sara Reiff.
