ENH HONORS SENATOR AT CHILD & ADOLESCENT PSYCH UNIT OPEN HOUSE

Lockport, NY – Eastern Niagara Hospital (ENH) held an Open House for the community at its new Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Unit last week.  It was announced that the unit, opening October 3rd, will be named the “Dr. Muscato Transitions Unit” in honor of George V.C. Muscato, MD, pediatrician.  New York State Senator George D. Maziarz was honored at the event for his efforts in helping the Hospital establish the program.

Dr. Muscato was a prominent member of the Hospital’s Medical Staff who served the community for over fifty-one years.  Clare A. Haar, Chief Executive Officer stated the Hospital had requested submissions of name suggestions for the unit from employees.  “Numerous individuals felt the unit should be named in memory of Dr. Muscato to acknowledg the many years of care he provided to children and adolescents.  We felt his name, coupled with the word ‘Transitions,’ would be reflective of the unit’s mission and serve as a tribute to a very exceptional physician.”

During the event, the Hospital honored Senator George D. Maziarz, NYS Senate – 62nd District.  ENH Board of Directors Chairman George V. C. Muscato presented the Senator with a plaque, thanking him for his leadership and support in helping the Hospital establish the new unit.  Muscato noted that healthcare is a very challenging industry and extended his appreciation to Maziarz for his assistance at the State level in helping ENH moved forward to meet the community’s needs with this service.

The 12-bed acute in-patient psychiatry unit will serve children and adolescents from 5 to 17 years of age with mental health disorders.  Care will be provided by a multi-disciplinary treatment team consisting of physicians, psychologist, counselors, social workers, nurses, recreational therapists, and mental health aides.  For more information about the new Dr. Muscato Transitions Unit, call (716) 514-5800 Ext. 1296.
