Senator Joe Robach Honors John Foy with Induction into New York State Veterans Hall of Fame

State Senator Joe Robach is proud to announce the induction of John Foy, an active member in the Rochester veteran community, to the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame on Tuesday, May 20. This honor is designed to pay tribute to New Yorkers whose gallantry in the U.S. Armed Forces is complimented by their service to the community and their accomplishments as a civilian.

“The New York State Senate Veteran’s Hall of Fame gives special recognition to distinguished individuals as a way to express our deep gratitude and admiration” says Senator Robach. “John has dedicated his life to serving this nation, his comrades and his community, and is most deserving of this great honor.”

John served in the United States Army as a front line machine gunner in the Battle of Northern France and then went on to serve in the Battle of the Bulge. It was at the Battle of the Bulge that his division helped to relieve the 101^st Airborne Division surrounded in Bastogne, fought through the Siegfried line and across the Mosel and Rhine rivers. They continued to fight all the way across Germany to Czechoslovakia where they met the Russian army at the end of the war. John was wounded three times but recovered and continued to serve. His infantry company of two hundred soldiers lost a total of eighty men and over one hundred were wounded.

Mr. Foy was awarded the Bronze Star, Conspicuous Service Cross, Combat Infantry medal, a Presidential Citation, European Campaign, American Defense, Victory Medal and several other campaign awards.

John is the co-founder of the local Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge group. He will be celebrating the 70^th Anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy later this year, where he will also visit the battlegrounds of the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium and Luxembourg.

Mr. Foy will be inducted into the New York State Veteran’s Hall of Fame during a ceremony on Tuesday May, 20 at 11:00 a.m. in the Legislative Office Buiding. Each honoree’s photograph and biography will become part of a special on-line exhibit proclaiming the contributions of these exemplary New York Veterans.
