DROPPING THE GREEN FLAG ON SUMMER!

Thomas F. O'Mara

Watkins Glen, N.Y., July 1--It was a jam-packed and historic few days of racing last weekend for the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen on June 26-29 at Watkins Glen International -- the premier road racing facility in America.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was also on hand to help start the summer tourism season by paying tribute to WGI's place in it, as well as to introduce a new tourism campaign called the "Ultimate Road Trip" to showcase tourist attractions throughout the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions, and statewide.

And on Saturday morning, State Senator Tom O'Mara (R,C-Big Flats), accompanied by his son Thomas (to the senator's immediate right in the photo above), dropped the green flag to start the Continental Tire 150.

Senator O'Mara's day also included a ride around the track in a Dallara Daytona Prototype (see a photo HERE).

Earlier this year, in March, Senator O’Mara joined the governor, legislative colleagues and Watkins Glen International President Michael Printup to help celebrate “Motorsports Appreciation Week."
