Days after September 11, 2001 Le Monde expressed solidarity, “We are all Americans! We are all New Yorkers, as surely as John Kennedy said in 1962 in Berlin, Berliners.”
In these days after a ferocious atrocity in Paris, we stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in France: Nous sommes tous Français! We are all French! We are all Parisians!
We stand together against this profound affront to humanity. An attack on innocent people enjoying a Friday night in the City of Light. People watching a sporting event, having a nice meal at a restaurant, attending a concert - pleasures familiar to the life of every New Yorker.
Today there is no Atlantic Ocean between us, no barrier of geography or language. There is our common humanity. Our common mourning the brutal injury and loss of so many. Our common resolve to overcome the murderous cruelty of Friday. Our common aspiration to live in peace in a free society. And our common devotion to the principles of liberté, égalité, fraternité.
Nous sommes avec toi. We are with you.
