Senator Bonacic Announces $100,000 Grant for the Village of Ellenville
November 3, 2016
(Middletown, NY)- State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) announced today that the Village of Ellenville has been awarded a $100,000 grant through the State Municipal Grant Program. The funding will be split between two projects, $50,000 towards a new barn for the Village Street Department, and $50,000 towards the installation of a new HVAC system at the Hunt Memorial building. Funding for the State Municipal Grant was included in the 2016-2017 State Budget.
Currently, the Village of Ellenville’s Street Department equipment is exposed to the elements. Part of this grant will allow the Village to construct a new barn to house the equipment, and purchase a heavy duty mower to meet current and near future needs. In addition, the grant will enable the Village to install HVAC equipment in the Hunt Memorial Building. The building, which currently houses the Wawarsing Chamber of Commerce and visitor’s center, currently has no access to heat. The building is utilized by many in the community, with plans for on-going and future development.
“I’m pleased to work with Mayor Kaplan to provide this grant to the Village of Ellenville,” said Senator Bonacic. “Not only will the grant serve dual purposes by improving operations at the Street Department and upgrading the Hunt Memorial Building, it will also save taxpayers money.”
The village of Ellenville Mayor Jeff Kaplan said, “On behalf of the residents in the Village of Ellenville, I want to thank Senator Bonacic for his continued support. This grant will help with the continued development of downtown Ellenville.”
