August 8, 2016
(Middletown, NY)- Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) joined Patrick Dollard, President and CEO of The Center for Discovery, and Richard Humleker, Vice President for Development at The Center for Discovery, last week, for a tour of downtown Hurleyville, in the Town of Fallsburg. The Center for Discovery is a nationally recognized leader in the field of high quality care for special needs populations, and is located in Sullivan County. The Center has worked in conjunction with Janet Carrus, who helped create the downtown renaissance in Hurleyville. Together, an investment of $12-15 million was made in downtown Hurleyville, which resulted in the rehab and/or construction of 12 buildings in downtown Hurleyville, with more work ongoing.
The new construction in Hurleyville includes a brand new Arts Centre, the Pickled Owl (a gastro pub), a handicap accessible movie theatre (which includes a brand new dance studio) an Art Gallery, as well as a Market (which hosts a farmers market on the weekends). In addition, the Center for Discovery has opened Hurleyville Makers Lab, a non-profit organization providing affordable and collaborative workspace for maker’s tinkerers, and DIYers. Individuals can become members and have access to tools, computer equipment, audio and video equipment, space for art projects, 3D printing technology, as well as other things.
