Senator Serrano Joins Governor Cuomo in Announcement of the Expansion of Jobs in the Bronx

"Today I had the pleasure of joining my friend Governor Andrew Cuomo at Hostos Community College in the South Bronx where he announced several new initiatives that will continue to put people back to work in the Bronx. Along with Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, Assemblyman Marcos Crespo and many of my other Bronx colleagues, we listened to the Governor outline the ways his Unemployment Strikeforce initiatives have had a profound impact on our borough. Once home to the highest unemployment rate in the State, unemployment percentage in the Bronx has dropped dramatically from 14.1% to 6.1%. With today’s announcement, Bronxites will now have access to the nation’s first state-sponsored Pre-Apprenticeship Program.  Additionally, initiatives such as the Summer Youth Employment Program will be expanded to provide even more training and help vulnerable New Yorkers get a solid start toward a better future.

My remarks at today's event focused on the many ways these programs mean much more than the encouraging statistics outlined today.  They mean real life-changing results for thousands of families and individuals who call this beautiful borough their home.

Through these transformative initiatives, and under the leadership of Governor Cuomo and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, the future of the Bronx is very bright!"
