Senator Todd Kaminsky has collected and delivered over 430 backpacks full of school supplies to local schools across the 9th Senate District. Kaminsky has been accepting school supply donations from the community as part of his annual Back to School Supply Drive. The backpacks contained school essentials, including notebooks, binders, folders, pens, pencils and crayons. Donations were generously provided by the Supplies for Success Program of UJA Federation, Green Acres Mall, and local residents, and Rapid Motion Technology of Woodmere graciously assisted in the transportation of the donations.
“Too many of our students start the school year off without the necessary supplies to be successful,” said Kaminsky. “This is a small gesture that will make a huge impact and help students in our community achieve their full potential.”
“We are so pleased to provide these backpacks filled with school supplies to help level the playing field for students in need,” said Mindy Richenstein, chair of Supplies for Success Program of UJA Federation, which donated over 280 backpacks. “Our hope is that this will lessen the financial burden of families as their children start the school year.”
“Green Acres is proud to be an active and involved community partner and each year we look forward to our Backpack Giveaway,” said Sara McGuinness, Marketing Manager of Green Acres which donated 150 backpacks to Senator Kaminsky’s school supply drive. “In partnership with our local officials, we were able to donate 800 supply-filled backpacks to children in need in time for the back to school season. Green Acres is so much more than a shopping center, we truly are a place for the community to come together and make a difference in Long Island.”
“Many thanks to Senator Todd Kaminsky's office for giving away book bags to students in need, said Revered Kymberley Clemens (K.C.) Jones of Valley Stream Presbyterian Church. “Educational needs of children begins with their self- esteem and beginning the year positively. Giving away new book bags is a great start to a great year.”
School supply donations will be accepted until September 8, and can be dropped off at Senator Kaminsky’s district office, located at 55 Front Street, Rockville Centre, NY.
