Kaminsky, Local Elected Officials and organizations join forces for Lofts Pond Community Cleanup

On Saturday, November 19th, Senator Todd Kaminsky, Assemblyman Brian Curran, Nassau County Legislator Laura Curran, Town of Hempstead Councilmember Erin King Sweeney, Operation SPLASH, Baldwin Civic Association, Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, SUEZ and Gala Fresh Farms joined forces for a community cleanup of Lofts Pond Park in Baldwin.

Residents have complained to Senator Kaminsky’s office regarding the garbage that littered the park and pond.  After two short hours of work, the crew collected over 40 bags of garbage.

“Today, the Baldwin community came together to make a huge difference,” said Senator Todd Kaminsky.  “Baldwin is a thriving community, and in just a few hours, we were able to cleanup the park and make a big change in a beautiful place.”

“The beautification of Baldwin is a priority, and I look forward to working together with my partners in government to keep Baldwin a thriving, prosperous community,” said Assemblyman Brian Curran.

Legislator Laura Curran stated, “The Lofts Pond clean-up is a fun and easy way to make a real difference in our community. These clean-ops also remind people how important parks are to our quality of life, and gives everyone a chance to be part of the solution.”

“I am happy to join with Senator Kaminsky, Assemblyman Curran and my colleagues as well as our Civic Association and Chamber of Commerce in this important community clean up at Lofts Pond,” said Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney.  “The revitalization of downtown Baldwin is a top priority for me as Councilwoman, and as this effort moves forward, we must make sure our public spaces stay vital as well. Events like this bring our community together and remind us of the importance of being good stewards of our environment. Let's all 'pitch in' to keep Baldwin beautiful!”

Operation SPLASH President Rob Weltner said, “It always better to “rescue” the trash with events like today before it finds its way out to the bay.”

“What a spectacular day for the community to come together and make one of Baldwin’s parks clean, said Baldwin Chamber of Commerce President Erik Mahler.  “We thank Senator Todd Kaminsky and the other local elected officials for sponsoring and coordinating this great event.”

“It is always a pleasure to partner with Sen. Kaminsky on environmental issues,” said Michael Martino, Manager of Communications and Community Relations at SUEZ. “Anything and everything must be done to keep our waterways clean and SUEZ will continue to be a part of these efforts whenever we can.”
