Senator Montgomery Celebrates the Groundbreaking of the new Dancewave Center
Senator Velmanette Montgomery
August 3, 2017
Senator Montgomery joined Assemblywoman Jo Anne Simon, Deputy Brooklyn Borough President Diana Reyna, Executive & Artistic Director Diane Jacobowitz and the Dancewave family to celebrate the groundbreaking of the organization’s new home.
The new community arts and cultural center at 182 4th Avenue was made possible in part by legislation sponsored by Senator Montgomery and Assemblywoman Simon which authorized New York State, through the Dormitory Authority, to assist Dancewave with low-interest capital construction financing. The state's assistance with the new Dancewave Center will allow the non-profit organization to expand its programming and provide affordable community rental space for rehearsals, events and performances.
Dancewave is a nonprofit organization that focuses on the development of the whole person through a dance experience accessible to all. Their unique model combines rigorous training with artistic integrity, and access for all, in a supportive environment. Students are mentored by accomplished dance professionals, which allows for personal growth as well as superior dance education. Dancers have the opportunity to join our pre-professional dance companies, where they gain technical proficiency and self-confidence through training, rehearsals, and performances.
