July 23rd Community Update from Senator Shelley Mayer
July 23, 2018
Dear Friend:
After this year's June Congressional primaries throughout New York State, it is even more apparent that multiple primaries on different days during the year leads to confusion for voters and reduces voter turnout. I strongly support having state and federal primaries on the same day, and I am a cosponsor of a bill sponsored by Senate Democratic Conference Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins to do just that. This bill, S.3562-A/A.9925A, would make primary days for state elections the same as for federal, non-presidential primaries. This merger ensures benefits for military personnel and other overseas citizens, voting rights advocates, and would save taxpayer dollars. Read more about the bill in the section below.
A second bill that I am proud to cosponsor would enact the Climate and Community Protection Act by addressing and mitigating the causes of climate change. Read more about S.7971-A/A.8270-B further on in the e-newsletter.
