Senator Montgomery joins the Brownstoners of Bedford Stuyvesant at the Kick-Off of their 40th Anniversary Celebration and 2018 Legacy Institute Series. January's meeting focused on Education. Senator Montgomery and NeQuan McLean, Chairperson of Community Education Council 16 discussed public education in New York State and the challenges facing the New York City school system.
Senator Montgomery also discussed her “Regents Bill” (S.3739). The legislation would require the New York State Board of Regents to hold two meetings a year in New York City to increase community and parental engagement. Senator Montgomery's "Regents Bill" passed the New York Senate in 2016 and 2017 but did not advance in the New York State Assembly.
