Dear Neighbor,
YouthBuild is a nationally and internationally recognized program that builds a pathway of success for young people. The model provides out of school young people between the ages of 16 and 24, with academic support and employment training services. In New York State, 137,000 youth (16-24 years old) are not in school or working because of a disconnection from school and employment opportunities. The national average of disconnected youth is 7.7%; New York State is much higher at 11%.
YouthBuild programs provide:
- High School Equivalency Educational Services
- Stipends
- Skills Training (Construction, IT, Nursing, Customer Service, Medical Billing, etc.)
- Professional Certifications (Construction Certification, OSHA Certification)
- Career Services and Job Placement Assistance
- Long-Term Follow up Services
- Permanent Economic Self Sufficiency
Furthermore, YouthBuild participants address urgent community needs including the demand for affordable housing by renovating and building housing for homeless and other low-income individuals. The programs provide pathways of opportunities to transform their lives and to become leaders in their communities.
For your convenience, I have assembled a list of YouthBuildprograms in our State. Please contact the YouthBuild in your community to learn more about their programs or to enroll.
Sincerely,
Senator Velmanette Montgomery
25th Senate District
