Bridge in Harrison Named in Honor of Joseph Lemm, 'Superman' NYPD Detective Killed in Afghanistan [LoHud]

A bridge crossing over Interstate 287 in Harrison has been named the "NYPD Det. TSgt. Joseph G. Lemm Memorial Bridge" in honor of Lemm, who was deployed with the Air National Guard when he was killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan in December 2015.
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Friday signed legislation designating the bridge, which intersects with Westchester Avenue, for Lemm, who lived in West Harrison. Lemm was nicknamed the "Superman" by NYPD colleagues.
Lemm, a technical sergeant in the Air National Guard, was killed when a suicide bomber attacked his convoy. An NYPD veteran, he was serving his third tour of duty overseas, two of them in Afghanistan and one in Iraq. He was one of six Americans killed in the attack.
"While serving our nation in Afghanistan," state Sen. Shelley Mayer said, "he and his family paid the ultimate price, and we honor his commitment and sacrifice."
