In February, two Serrano bills to preserve and protect parkland passed the New York State Senate.
On February 3rd, the Senate passed bill S.1355 to protect our parks by ensuring alienations result in replacement public spaces.
"Municipally owned parkland is vital to local communities, and once lost, city parkland is difficult to recover," said Senator Serrano. "The alienation of local parkland should be limited to instances of compelling public need where no other alternative is available, and should be accompanied by replacement parkland.
On February 24th, Serrano bill S.1426 to require recycling in City parks & historic sites passed the New York State Senate. In addition, the bill requires signage encouraging visitors to use trash bins or carry out what they bring in, and provides assistance for these programs.
