Flanked by family, friends, local officials and new colleagues, Sen. Jake Ashby (R,C-Castleton) swore the oath of office today and began his first term in the state Senate.
“I’m thrilled, and I’m ready to get to work,” said Ashby. “I want to build on what we were able to accomplish in the Assembly- making government work for our constituents, helping meet critical funding needs across the district, and collaborating with members on both sides of the aisle to advance common-sense, bipartisan legislation.”
The 43rd Senate District includes Rensselaer County and parts of Albany and Washington counties.
Ashby’s top priorities for his first term include expanding access to mental health care, providing financial relief for middle-class families squeezed by inflation and promoting practical criminal justice policies that balance public safety and reform efforts.
He also hopes to advance a bill in the Senate he helped shepherd through the Assembly, legislation which would create a pathway to citizenship for undocumented servicemembers and their families.
“I want to thank Leader Ortt for his steadfast support and transformative vision for our state. I’m pleased to join a Conference that’s committed to making our communities safer, more affordable and more dynamic.”
Ashby served in the Assembly from 2018 until his election to the Senate. He is an occupational therapist. A combat veteran, Ashby completed tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Ashby and his wife Kristy reside in Castleton with their two children, Holden and Elika.
