Senator Palumbo Announces Scholarship Opportunities for Area Students
February 14, 2024
Senator Anthony Palumbo (R,C-New Suffolk) is proud to announce that the New York Conference of Italian American State Legislators is now accepting applications for their annual scholarship program. This year, four scholarships, each valued at $3,000, are available—two focused on academic achievements and two designated for athletic accomplishments.
Eligibility extends to residents of the 1st Senate District who are either current college students or high school seniors planning to enter college. Interested applicants are encouraged to submit their applications online by visiting: https://www.nyiacsl.org/apply-for-scholarship-form. The deadline for application submission is set for March 15.
“In a time when the cost of college education is on the rise, these scholarships present a fantastic opportunity for hardworking students in our district to alleviate some of their financial burdens,” said Senator Palumbo. “I urge our scholars and athletes who meet the criteria to apply.”
Criteria for application include a minimum grade point average of 3.0, active participation in community service and extracurricular activities, demonstrated financial need, and, for athletic scholarships, involvement in organized sports. Applicants are not required to have Italian American heritage to qualify.
The scholarship winners will be announced in April and will be honored at a special ceremony in Albany. This initiative underscores the New York Conference of Italian American State Legislators' ongoing commitment to celebrating and supporting the Italian American community and its broader contributions to the state’s cultural and academic excellence.
The New York Conference of Italian American State Legislators is a bipartisan organization comprising state Assembly and Senate members dedicated to promoting the heritage and contributions of New York’s Italian American community.
