October 14, 2024
State Senator Shelley B. Mayer partnered with Feeding Westchester for a food donation drive in honor of Hunger Action Month. The drive was held in September with five drop-off locations throughout Senate District 37 including White Plains Fire Department Station 1, Yonkes Fire Station 11, New Rochelle Fire Station 5, Mamaroneck Fire Department and Pound Ridge Town House. In addition, Senator Mayer’s Youth Advisory Council also led a one day donation drive drop off at Larchmont Pharmacy.
Among the items donated included non-perishable items such as brown and white rice, whole-grain pasta, shelf-stable milk, canned meat, canned fish, canned vegetables, peanut butter, whole-grain cereal, canned and dried fruit, and canned meals.
Thanks to the contributions of community members, a total of 377 pounds of food was donated, which is equivalent to 314 meals that will go to neighbors in need.
Senator Shelley B. Mayer said, “I am grateful to have so many generous constituents who come together to help our neighbors and friends in need. Feeding Westchester does incredible work to ensure members of our community are fed, nourished, and have access to resources to help them live healthy lives. Thank you to the Town of Pound Ridge, the White Plains, Yonkers, Mamaroneck, and New Rochelle Fire Stations, and Larchmont Pharmacy for allowing us to use your space as a donation location. Lastly, thank you to Feeding Westchester for your indispensable work.”
Karen C. Erren, President & CEO of Feeding Westchester, said, “We are truly grateful to Senator Shelley Mayer for continuously bringing the community together to support our neighbors in need. By leading this food drive and delivering the donations to our distribution center in Elmsford, she’s helping to ensure that hard-working families can put nourishing food on their tables. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the generous community members of Senator Mayer’s district, whose contributions made this effort a success. Together, their support provides vital resources and raises awareness in the ongoing fight against hunger.”
