Councilwoman Cullin Chosen As A "2005 Woman Of Distinction" By Senator Fuschillo

Charles J. Fuschillo Jr.

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently named Town of Hempstead Councilwoman Angie Cullin as a "2005 Woman of Distinction" as part of the State Senate’s 8th annual "Women of Distinction" program. Councilwoman Cullin will be personally honored by the entire New York State Senate in Albany at a special ceremony next month.

"Angie Cullin is the epitome of what an elected official should be. She cares deeply about her constituents, never stops working on behalf of our residents, is extremely responsive, and is always willing to listen and lend a helping hand whenever someone is in need," said Senator Fuschillo. "On behalf of the entire community, it is my pleasure to thank her for all of her efforts by presenting her with this honor."

In 1987, Angie Cullin became the first woman in the history of the Town of Hempstead to serve as member of the Town Board. She again made history in 1993 by becoming the first woman ever to hold the office of Receiver of Taxes. She returned to the Town Board in 2000 as the representative of the fifth councilmatic district, and was reelected again in 2003. In addition to her governmental service, Councilwoman Cullin belongs to a number of local charitable and civic organizations.

The New York State Senate’s "Women of Distinction" program was created in 1998 to recognize outstanding women in our midst -- women living and working in New York State whose contributions have greatly enriched the quality of life in their communities and beyond.
