Senator Fuschillo Reminds Residents That Filing Deadline For Star Tax Savings Program Is Approaching
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) is reminding all Nassau County residents that the January 2, 2006 deadline to apply for New York State’s STAR program is quickly approaching.
"Homeowners all across New York State have saved billions of dollars in school property taxes since the STAR program was created, but there are still many local residents who are not enrolled," said Senator Fuschillo. "I urge anyone who has not already signed up for the STAR program to take advantage of these valuable tax savings. No one should have to pay more than their fair share."
The STAR program works in two parts:
- Basic STAR is available to all New Yorkers who own and live in their own home, condominium, or cooperative apartment, regardless of income level or age.
- Enhanced STAR is available to senior citizen (aged 65 and older) property owners whose annual adjusted gross income level is under $66,050. If the property is owned by a husband and wife, or by siblings, only one of them must be at least 65 years old to qualify for this exemption.
Residents who already receive the Basic STAR exemption or who participate in the Enhanced STAR Income Verification Program do not need to refile.
