Senator Fuschillo Reminds Residents To Take Advantage Of Upcoming "tax Free Week"
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) is informing residents that New York State has designated the week from Tuesday, August 30 through Monday, September 5 as a tax free shopping week.
"With the beginning of the school year just around the corner, parents throughout the state are heading to the stores to get the best for their children and this tax free week will help them stretch that family budget. This is a great opportunity for families to save money and I hope that everyone takes advantage of it," stated Senator Fuschillo.
Eligible clothing and footwear purchases costing less than $110 will be exempt from state sales and use tax between Tuesday, August 30, and Monday, September 5. Also exempt, according to the New York State Department of Taxation, will be items used to make or repair exempt clothing and footwear.
Suffolk County has again opted to join the state in this tax free program, meaning that Suffolk County residents will have the ability to purchase eligible items without any additional county or state sales tax. In Nassau County, the exemption will apply only to the state's 4% sales and use taxes.
Individuals who are purchasing exempt items in Nassau County will still be responsible for the county portion of the sales tax.
