Senator Fuschillo Supports Creation Of Tax Check Off For World Trade Center Memorial Fund
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently supported legislation that would allow all New York residents to assist in remembering those lost on 9/11. The proposal would provide a tax check-off box on personal income tax and corporate franchise tax returns for gifts to the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation.
The World Trade Center Memorial honors those lost in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The State has established the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation to raise additional funds for the construction and operation of this historic memorial. All four living former Presidents of the United States serve as honorary members of the Foundation's Board of Directors. This bill would provide all New Yorkers an opportunity to contribute to the World Trade Center Memorial and honor our lost heroes.
"Throughout this state, and especially here on Long Island, many communities were affected by the tragic event of 9/11. This memorial is a fitting tribute to those we lost and will ensure that we will never forget," stated Senator Fuschillo. "By making the check-off a part of the tax return, this law would make donating to this worthy cause easier and will assure contributors that their donation is going directly to the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation."
The legislation, which has now passed both houses of the legislature, will soon be sent to Governor George Pataki for his approval. The Memorial is scheduled to open on September 11, 2009.
