Senator Fuschillo Wins State Funding For Merrick Film Forum

Charles J. Fuschillo Jr.

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) announced today that he secured $5,000 in state grant funding for the Merrick Film Forum, which will help offset the group’s programming and operational expenses.

Now entering its 48th season, the Merrick Film Forum currently has approximately 100 members. The group presents a unique format of films with interesting and lively speakers leading discussions of those films. The films are usually shown on the first Friday of the month between October and May at the Merrick Avenue Middle School.

"On behalf of our Executive Board, our members, and our viewers, I would like to express our gratitude to Senator Fuschillo for his continuing support of the Merrick Film Forum," stated Jay Broad, Merrick Film Forum President and Technical Director. "With his help, we have been able to continue our 48 year program of providing interesting movies, discussions, and guest speakers/discussion leaders to the community. We look forward to continuing our program of eight movies a year with discussion afterward over coffee and cake."

"The Merrick Film Forum brings the magic of the movies right into our community at a reduced cost. It also allows residents to interact and discuss the films both with each other and with the guest speaker at the end of the show. This definitely adds a different and interesting aspect to the movie-going experience," said Senator Fuschillo. "I am glad that local residents will continue to be able to take advantage of these programs again this year."
