Senator Farley Announces Grants To Local Libraries

As Chairman of the New York State Senate Subcommittee on Libraries, State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R,C - Schenectady) is extremely proud to announce that he has obtained a combined $242,500 in grants for the libraries in his district.

"I cannot stress enough how important libraries are to our communities," Senator Farley said. "Not only do they offer a wide variety of books, but they are also places for research and can help obtain documents. Some have outlets for Internet use, and some even provide story hours for children and are a part of community events. I understand the importance of libraries to their communities, and the value of the services they provide. I know these special Senate grants will be put to good use."

In Fulton County, Gloversville and Johnstown public libraries each were awarded $25,000, while Northville Public Library will receive $10,000.

The following libraries in Montgomery County will receive grants from Senator Farley: Amsterdam Free Library, $25,000; Canajoharie Library and Art Gallery, $10,000; Fort Hunter Free Library, $10,000; Fort Plain Free Library, $10,000; Fonda's Frothingham Free Library, $10,000; and St. Johnsville's Margaret Reaney Memorial Library, $10,000.

The following libraries which serve parts of Saratoga County will receive grants from Senator Farley: Corinth Free Library, $10,000; Galway Public Library, $10,000; Hadley-Luzerne Public Library, $2,500; and Town of Ballston Community Library, $10,000.

Schenectady County Public Library will obtain $25,000. The Mohawk Valley Library System and the Southern Adirondack Library System were awarded $50,000 for joint projects.

"Both Mohawk Valley Library System and the Southern Adirondack Library System are extremely vital to the community libraries," Senator Farley said. "They coordinate information services in their governing counties and typically offer assistance with inter-library loan materials."
