Senator Farley Announces Saratoga, Schenectady Counties Receive A Combined $135,000 In Motor Vehicle And Insurance Fraud Prevention Grants
State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R,C - Schenectady) joins Governor George E. Pataki in announcing law enforcement agencies in Saratoga and Schenectady counties are slated to receive $35,000 and $100,000, respectively, to help fight motor vehicle theft and insurance fraud.
"When theft and fraud occur, everyone gets hurt," Senator Farley said, "not just the immediate victim of the crime. Insurance rates go up, penalizing everyone. This funding will help local officials crack down on these crimes, sending a message that motor vehicle theft and insurance fraud will not be tolerated."
The Saratoga County District Attorney's office intends on using the $35,000 to continue the coordinated efforts of local law enforcement. The department also will continue to provide specialized prosecution of these cases. Schenectady County District Attorney's Office will use the $100,000 grant for similar activities and purposes.
The grants are administered by the Motor Vehicle Theft and Insurance Fraud Prevention Bureau.
