Senator Farley To Receive National Recognition For His Library Efforts

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R,C - Schenectady), Chairman of the New York State Senate Subcommittee on Libraries, is one of the few selected honorees who will be saluted by the American Library Association during its Annual Conference this June in Chicago.

"I am very humbled by this award," Senator Farley said. "Only three people from New York are being honored this year and I am very proud to be part of this elite selection."

The other two to be honored in June are State Librarian and Assistant Commissioner for Libraries Janet Martin Welch and the New York Times. Senator Farley has been Chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Libraries since 1978, sponsoring virtually all significant library legislation adopted over the course of three decades.

"Libraries are a place of lifelong learning," Senator Farley added. "Librarians are truly amazing people. They inspire our youth and invite them into a library where there is an adventure on every shelf. They are also instrumental in maintaining the cataloguing system, processing and preparing books and audiovisual formats, shelving books and other mediums. Librarians and their staff work so hard behind the scenes and I am proud to be an advocate for them and the 7,000 library institutions in New York State which offer services ranging from scholarly research to recreational reading."

Senator Farley represents the 44th State Senatorial District, which includes Fulton, Montgomery, Schenectady and half of Saratoga counties. He also serves as Senate Majority Whip and is Professor Emeritus of Business Law at the University at Albany.
