Senator Farley Salutes Gloversville Students For Completion Of Reading Program

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R,C - Schenectady) was proud to be in attendance at the Gloversville Enlarged School District's celebration of their elementary students reading over 4,500 books throughout the school year.

"What a great job," Senator Farley said to a packed auditorium in the Gloversville Middle School on June 6th. "You should be proud of yourselves. As Chairman of the New York State Senate Subcommittee on Libraries and a former teacher, I try to promote reading and learning as much as possible. I am so proud of all of you. Reading will lead to success."

Students from all of the elementary schools -- Boulevard, Kingsborough, McNab, Meco, Park Terrace -- participated.

Senator Farley also encourages parents to instill the love of reading in their children. "Parents have a very important responsibility in their children’s growth and education. Studies have shown that children whose families are involved in their learning become higher achievers and learn more quickly than children whose families are not. It’s a big responsibility, but it’s not difficult to help your children learn. The best way is to encourage them to read," Senator Farley said. "When children see their family members reading, writing and conversing, they naturally want to participate."

Senator Farley is offering a summer reading program, called Reading is Freedom, and is targeted to children in elementary school.
