Cortland Memorial In Line For State Aid

Senator James L. Seward announced today that Cortland Memorial Hospital would benefit from a state grant of $250,000 to the Community Hospital Network of Central New York, a consortium of four component hospitals that focuses on developing management tools and broadly applicable solutions to the problems faced by health care institutions.

"The funding to the network provides specific help to Cortland Memorial Hospital," Senator James L. Seward (R-C-I-/Milford) said. "The network provides a cooperative framework for member hospitals that focuses on joint purchasing initiatives, development of technology appropriate to a hospital’s needs, billing issues and disease management, among others. Cortland Memorial will benefit from the management solutions and programs provided by the network that would otherwise be unaffordable for just one hospital."

"This grant will assist Cortland Memorial Hospital in its collaborative effort with the three other hospitals in the Community Hospital Network of Central New York. The focus of our efforts is on improving quality of care and operation efficiencies. Sen. Seward's continued support of CMH's work has greatly benefited the residents of Cortland County," commented Brian R. Mitteer, president and chief executive officer of Cortland Memorial Hospital.

The Community Hospital Network of Central New York is a management services organization, established several years ago, to offer its members cost saving plans and solutions to common problems faced by hospitals. The network has offered its members various programs that are producing results and savings for the hospitals, including collection programs, asset management programs and evaluation of their health insurance plans.

The funding is through the state Health Care Reform Act.
