Senate Honors Korean Vets
Senator James L. Seward was in Schoharie recently to honor veterans of the Korean War who had been recognized for their service with the Korean War Medal, issued by the South Korean government to combat veterans in appreciation for their service to Korea.
At the Schoharie County Court House, Seward honored the veterans with the state Senate's Liberty Medal,a legislative honor presented to each veteran individually, recognizing the veteran's personal sacrifice and commitment to freedom.
"It was very moving to be with these veterans and to thank them for their service," Seward said. "The Korean government gratefully acknowledged their service with a special medal that wasn't available in the 1950s when soldiers could not wear a medal or insignia of a foreign government. So too, New York joins in recognizing their unique contributions to keeping South Korea free."
