Seward Award Boosts Greene Plan

State Senator James L. Seward today announced $50,000 in state funding toward the preparation of an updated Greene County comprehensive economic development plan. The total cost will be shared by the state, the county, the Greene County IDA and the Greene County Chamber of Commerce.

Seward announced the award at a kick off meeting of the Greene County Partnership on Tuesday, August 2, at the county emergency operations and training center in Cairo.

"Greene County is an attractive and convenient location for business development," Senator Seward said. "In just the last few years, Save a Lot and Serta have chosen to open facilities here, and there's a reason: Greene County is moving forward aggressively to court business and employers. The economic development plan will provide further refinement and direction for the county in its pursuit of jobs tied to an improved quality of life for all of Greene County residents.

"I applaud the leadership of the county, and business leaders, for joining in an effort to provide a sound strategy to guide future growth in Greene County."

The funding will be administered by Empire State Development Corporation.

More details about the plan will be discussed at the meeting.
