Senate Gives Final Passage To Bill To Create Tax Check Off For World Trade Center Memorial Fund

The New York State Senate gave final legislative passage to a bill (S.3417) that would provide a tax check-off box on personal income tax and corporate franchise tax returns for gifts to the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation.

The World Trade Center Memorial honors those lost in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The State has established the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation to raise additional funds for the construction and operation of this historic memorial. All four living former Presidents of the United States serve as honorary members of the Foundation's Board of Directors. This bill would provide all New Yorkers an opportunity to contribute to the World Trade Center Memorial and honor our lost heroes.

"As the nation contributes its time and resources to help in the recovery efforts from Katrina, we must also keep in mind the continuing need to support New York’s recovery from the attacks on the World Trade Center," stated Senator Joe Robach. "This tax check off provides an important reminder and another opportunity for people to contribute to the World Trade Center Memorial Fund."

The Memorial is scheduled to open on September 11, 2009. This bill was passed by the Assembly and will now be sent to the Governor.
