Senator Robach Honors Dr. David Du Bois With Achievers' Award

Senator Joseph E. Robach presented Dr. David Du Bois with the 2005 Senate Achievers’ Award on Tuesday, May 24th, as part of the New York State Senate’s 24th Annual Disabilities Awareness Day.

"As an active member of our community, Dr. Du Bois has worked tirelessly to improve the rights and lives of those living with developmental disabilities in the Rochester area," Robach said. "It is an honor and a privilege to present the 2005 Senate Achievers’ Award to Dr. Du Bois."

Dr. Du Bois, a graduate with both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Business Administration from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a doctorate in Higher Education Administration and Financial Management from The Union Institute, is a renown professor at Empire State College where he teaches and mentors business and educational studies as well as social policy and advocacy for disabilities. He has also served as Interim Assistant Dean and Acting Associate Dean for Empire State College and Academic Dean for the Rochester Business Institute.

In one of his most successful endeavors, Dr. Du Bois initiated and coordinated a generic evaluation of the Data Processing for Disabled Persons offered by Rochester Rehabilitation. This program, funded by the Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped (CBVH), the Veteran's Administration, the New York State Education Department, and Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID), trains 15-18 disabled individuals in computer programming each year. Students are then expected to matriculate at Empire State College.

Dr. Du Bois is also an accomplished author and orator. He has written a book entitled Adult Learners with Special Needs: Strategies and Resources for Higher, Continuing and Post Secondary Education and Training. He has two other books in progress. Dr. Du Bois has made numerous presentations where he has spoken about education for those with disabilities.
