Senator Robach Honors Mary Angerame With Woman Of Distinction Award

Senator Joseph E. Robach presented Mary Angerame of Brighton with the 2005 Senate Woman of Distinction Award on Tuesday, June 14, as a part of the New York State Senate’s annual "Women of Distinction" ceremony in Albany.

"Too often in society we don’t say thank you enough," Robach said. "This award ceremony is a great opportunity for us to honor Mary Angerame’s tireless work to improve the health care of the greater Rochester community, especially for children, families and those affected by serious and terminal illness. It is an honor and a privilege to present the 2005 Senate Woman of Distinction Award to Mary."

As a graduate of Plattsburgh State University College with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in primary care nursing from the University of Rochester, Mary Angerame stands upon an impressive record of achievement. Currently, Ms. Angerame works as both a nurse practitioner for East High School Based Health Center as well as the Coordinator for the Center for Spirituality, Health and Wellness which is affiliated with the University of Rochester School of Nursing.

For over two decades Ms. Angerame dedicated her time to various roles in the nursing field, including: six years working as a nurse practitioner for the Community Health Network where she provided primary health care to clients with HIV/AIDS; four years as a consultant to TEAM Project which assisted children and families affected by HIV/AIDS; 10 years as an Adjunct Clinical Instructor at the University of Rochester’s School of Nursing; and one year as the Quality Improvement Coordinator where she was responsible for the management of quality improvement for 12 clinics which included HIV practices, School Based Health Centers, and primary care, pediatric and OB/GYN practices.

Ms. Angerame has served, or currently serves, on the following boards: Oncology Nursing Society; HIV Special Interest Group; Association of Nurses in AIDS Care; Rochester Area Task Force on AIDS; New York State Cancer and AIDS Pain Initiative; and International Association of Counselors and Therapists.

Mary Angerame is also an accomplished author. She has written or co-authored several articles in renown journals such as Cancer Nursing, Image: Journal of Nursing Scholarship, AACN Clinical Issues: Advanced Practice in Acute and Critical Care and ANAC’s Core Curriculum for HIV/AIDS Nursing.

Mary is married to Jeff Folkins and they have 2 daughters - Beth and Amy. They have lived in the Rochester area for over 24 years.
