Senator Robach Names Gary Beikirch To Veterans Hall Of Fame Honor

State Senator Joseph Robach today announced the induction of Gary Beikirch, a local Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, as among one of the first members of the newly established New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame.

The first-of-its-kind online Hall of Fame is designed to pay tribute to New Yorkers whose gallantry in the U.S. Armed Forces is complemented by their service to the community and significant accomplishments as a civilian.

Sargeant Gary Beikirch served in the US Special Forces from August of 1967 to August of 1971 at the height of the Vietnam War. He is most distinguished for his performance during the defense of Camp Dak Seang where he is credited for saving the lives of several of his comrades. For his heroic efforts, he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Bronze Star, Purple Heart (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Combat Medic Badge, Vietnamese Jump Wings and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star.

"On Veterans Day, we pause to honor the men and women who serve our nation and the cause of freedom as members of the military," said Senator Robach. "The Senate Veterans Hall of Fame pays tribute to all who serve, but also singles out for special recognition those whose gallantry and service have helped make our nation and our communities better places to live."

The inaugural class of Senate Veterans Hall of Fame inductees includes more than 25 veterans from across the State who continue to serve with distinction as leading members of their communities, including Senator Robach’s designee, Gary Beikirch.

Senator Robach plans to designate a new Hall of Fame inductee each Veterans Day.
