Golden: Families Can Honor And Remember Deceased Veterans With Presidential Certificates

Martin J. Golden

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden (R-C, 22nd District), a member of the New York State Senate Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs, is today announcing a Presidential Program which invites family members and friends of deceased veterans to request an official Presidential Certificate to honor the memory and service of any deceased veteran.

"I encourage all family and friends of those who have died, but who during their life so courageously served our nation, to request this honor and this tribute. I commend President George W. Bush for the establishment of this program. It is the sacrifices of our veterans and their families that have allowed you and me to live in freedom, with liberty, opportunity and justice, in the greatest democracy ever created," said Senator Marty Golden.

Golden continued, "By answering the call of duty and risking their lives to protect their fellow countrymen, these patriots have inspired our Nation with their courage, compassion, and dedication. Our proud veterans, who have gone before us, have helped to shape the American character. They have given us an extraordinary legacy of patriotism and honor, and their service represents the highest form of citizenship. This service should never be forgotten."

The deceased veteran does not have to have been killed in action and there is no restriction on the number of years it has been since the veteran’s death. To request a Presidential Memorial Certificate, families are asked to submit an application which includes the Veteran’s name, Social Security Number, and the date of death.

The applications are available by contacting Senator Marty Golden’s office at (718) 238-6044 or (718) 627-3659 or via e-mail at golden@senate.state.ny.us. The Presidential Memorial Certificate will be processed between 30-45 days and will be mailed directly to the requesting family.
