Golden Worries For Future Of Brooklyn's Waste Disposal

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, 22nd District) today announced his dissatisfaction with the New York City Council in their vote against Mayor Bloomberg’s Waste Management Plan, saying that the Council has acted foolishly.

"Of the numerous plans that have been presented by the City administration to the City Council, this latest plan proved to be the best version. It is disheartening to see the City Council vote against this legislation and to indicate their intention to override the Mayor’s veto. New York City, in the immediate near future, needs to have a solid waste management plan in place. This plan was by far the best option to move solid waste out of New York City causing no negative quality of life effect on the vast majority of New York City’s communities," said Senator Marty Golden.

Golden continued, "This vote sets the City back to day one and reawakens fears of the creation of transfer stations throughout Brooklyn. It was in 1997 that this community was threatened by the possibility of a transfer station at 65th Street. This community came together in strong opposition and we prevented it. With the Council’s objection, sites that will be looked at to aid in disposing our City’s waste will be more than likely have to be approved for we have been left with no other options."
