Senator Golden Secures Over $100,000 For Local Senior Centers And Programs

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden, Chairman of the New York State Senate Aging Committee, (R-C-I, 22nd District), today is announcing that he has secured over $100,000 in the 2004-2005 State Budget to support 30 senior centers and programs throughout the neighborhood. The funding has been awarded towards senior programming and to expand activities and services.

Senator Marty Golden stated, "As Chairman of the Senate Aging Committee, I am proud to have secured this essential funding to support the efforts and the activities of our local senior centers. It is important that within this community, a neighborhood many seniors call home, that we have a network of programs and centers that are well funded and equipped to meet the needs and interests of our senior residents."

Golden continued, "As a regular visitor to these many centers, I frequently see our seniors enjoying lunch, light refreshments, playing cards and bingo, and simply enjoying the friendship of others. I am proud to contribute to the enjoyment and the recreation of these centers so that these programs can continue to provide this important outlet and enhance the quality of life of our neighborhood seniors in their ‘golden years’."

Senator Golden has granted funding to the following senior programs: AMICO Senior Center, the American Association of Retired Persons, the Bay Ridge Center for Older Adults, the Fort Hamilton Senior Center, the Norwegian Christian Home and Health Center, Lutheran Medical Center’s Senior In Touch Program, and the Narrows Senior Center.

Senator Golden has also allocated funding to the following local parish senior programs: Good Shepherd, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Regina Pacis Young At Heart, Most Precious Blood, Mary Queen of Heaven, St. Dominic’s, Our Lady of Angels, Our Lady of Grace, Resurrection, St. Anselm’s, St. Athansius’s, St. Bernadette’s, St. Columba’s, St. Dominic’s, St. Ephrem’s, St. Francis Cabrini, St. Mark’s, St. Columba’s, Bethany Lutheran Friendship Club, the Gerritsen Beach Golden Age Club, St. Patrick’s, St. Simon and St. Jude, and the St. Thomas Aquinas Seniors.

Senator Golden will be hosting a series of senior fairs throughout the community which will allow seniors the opportunity to receive important information regarding services offered to benefit their daily living.

The senior fairs will feature food, entertainment, and information made available by various City agencies including: the New York City Department for the Aging, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, the Department of Sanitation, the New York City Department of Health, the New York City Police Department, New York and Company, and local hospitals.
