Senator Nozzolio To Hold Public Senate Hearing On Megans Law
Albany – Continuing his commitment to help ensure children and families are safe and kept out of harms way, New York State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio (R,C-Fayette) today announced that he will be hosting a public hearing on May 3, 2005 regarding Megan’s Law.
The purpose of the hearing is to examine the current Megan’s law statute, and study ideas and legislation designed to enhance the existing law and increase public notification of all registered sex offenders.
“Strengthening the notification provisions of Megan’s law will help keep our communities safer from individuals who prey on women and children,” said Senator Nozzolio. “Loopholes in the current law have allowed sex offenders to live undetected and it is critical that we strengthen Megan’s law and help ensure children are kept out of harm’s way.”
The public hearing will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2005 in Hearing Room A of the Legislative Office Building in Albany between 12:00pm and 3pm. The public is invited to attend the hearing.

Senator Nozzolio serves as Chairman of the Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee and was instrumental in the enactment of Megan’s Law in 1995 which created the registered sex offender list in New York State.
