Senator Nozzolio Secures $25,000 For Cornell’s Martin P. Catherwood Library

Michael F. Nozzolio

Ithaca—State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio (R,C-Fayette), a graduate of the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University, recently secured a $25,000 State grant to support the ILR School’s Martin P. Catherwood Library. The funding was secured from the 2004-2005 New York State budget.

“As a student at the ILR School, I spent many days and nights at the Catherwood Library. It was a sincere pleasure for me to secure this $25,000 State grant to support the library which played an integral role in my academic and professional pursuits,” said Senator Nozzolio.

“Dean Catherwood was a tremendous mentor to me at Cornell. Not only was Dean Catherwood a distinguished member of the Cornell faculty, he was also a respected leader in New York State government, serving as Chairman of the State Planning Council, Commissioner of Commerce, and Industrial Commissioner. This world-class library will continue the legacy of Dean Catherwood and remains a lasting and fitting tribute to a great professor, a great public servant, and a great man,” Nozzolio added.

This new funding increases Senator Nozzolio’s total commitment to date to $75,000 for the library.

Edward Lawler, Dean of the School of Industrial and Labor Relations said, “We are extremely grateful for Senator Nozzolio’s continued support for the Martin P. Catherwood Library of the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell. His support will help keep our unique collections on labor-management relations on the cutting edge, and it provides a special way to honor the contributions of Martin P. Catherwood, who was Dean of the ILR School from 1947-1958 during the library’s formative years.”

Gordon Law, Director of the Catherwood Library said, “The grant which Senator Nozzolio has secured will help us maintain our standing as the foremost library of its type in North America and one of only two others like it in the world. This funding will enable us to expand our materials and resources and I deeply appreciate the Senator’s continued efforts on behalf of the Catherwood Library.”

Senator Nozzolio earned a Bachelor’s degree from Cornell in Labor Relations and a Master’s degree in Public Administration and Agricultural Economics.

“It is my hope that this grant will help ensure that future generations of Cornell students have access to the best library and the best resources possible in order to expand their horizons and take hold of the opportunities that await them. I have always been proud to be a Cornell graduate, and I am prouder still today,” Nozzolio concluded.
