Senator Nozzolio Urges New Yorkers To Shop Tax-free

Michael F. Nozzolio

Albany — State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio (R-Fayette) today reminded New Yorkers they can shop tax-free for clothing and footwear purchases that cost less than $110 per item
starting this coming week -- Tuesday, August 30, 2005 through Labor Day, Monday, September 5, 2005.

"Once again, consumers in New York State can directly benefit from the tax cuts that we have enacted under Governor Pataki's leadership. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this chance to receive this important tax break," Senator Nozzolio said.

The week-long sales tax exemption waives the State’s 4 percent sales tax on clothing and footwear. As in the past, counties and cities across the State may elect to exempt their local portion of the sales tax. Fifty-seven counties and 17 cities, including New York City, will participate in this one-week exemption.

COUNTIES AND CITIES PARTICIPATING IN SALES TAX-FREE WEEK (8/30/059/5/05)

"The huge savings for New Yorkers and the increase in economic activity in clothing and footwear sales during sales tax-free week is just one more sign of the economic growth and prosperity that has taken place in the great State of New York," concluded Nozzolio.
