Senator Fuschillo Brings State Capitol Into Farmingdale Classroom Using New Video Conferencing Technology
Using new video conferencing technology, a class of Farmingdale fifth graders were able to visit with Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) in the state capitol without ever having to leave their school. The equipment allowed Senator Fuschillo and the students to see each other and converse in real time, even though they were in different parts of the state.
From his office in Albany, Senator Fuschillo explained his role as a state legislator and talked about how new laws are passed. Afterwards, the students, who were in their classroom in Farmingdale, had the opportunity to ask Senator Fuschillo questions and offer their ideas for new laws.
"This is a great new tool that will allow the school district to bring students to far away places without ever having them leave the school or travel. I really enjoyed the opportunity to take the students on a virtual field trip and bring the state capitol right into their classroom," said Senator Fuschillo, a member of the Senate’s Education Committee.
In the future, video conferencing will allow students to take additional "virtual field trips" to historical sites, museums, theatres, and zoos. The Farmingdale School District was able to purchase the equipment using state grant funding obtained by Senator Fuschillo.
